Lunar New Year 2013

Haven't post anything much since, been so long, yeah a year fly by but here is a sketch paint I did for the year of the snake 2013.  Very much enjoyed doing these.

Year of the Dragon 2012

I was doing a lot of dragon designs for this Year of the Dragon chinese new year for some T-shirts and Calenders production. So I decided to pull one out of the bunch to edit it for another new year greetings for everyone. This one a bowing dragon wishing everyone a happy new year.

Christmas Greeting

This was a card I did during the Christmas holidays and posted on Christmas eve to wish all my friends and families on facebook a holiday greetings. It was a fun one to do and allowed myself some creativity, something different and not too much of the christmas cliches on it.

Some fun leg designs for a creature (Pierson's puppeteer), not quite the design for the specific creature but these were quick and fun to do.

Mustache

This one is the first win unexpected from the one hour competition at sketchoholoc. Lots of great entries from everybody as usual, and I was lucky to get chosen on this one.

This is about a 45 minute sketch and painting referenced out from a live guinea pig, Toby.  Bobby Chiu's pet.

Intense Turtle

Just a fun painting to see where I would go with this one.  

Sal A. Mander

The sketch or paint theme for this called "Amphibian".  What started out was a frog like head turned into a Salamander character for an interview with Travis Louie on Sketchoholic.com.

Classical City on Water

Here is the process I went to from rough beginning to final.

A rough sketch done in one hour for sketchoholic titled "creepy cute".  This one failed to upload.  I then used some extra time to paint it up.

Dragon

Another black and white collection, pencil rendered and a touch up bit digital of a dragon done for a chiustream.  More for the show and tell then a competition really.   

Here is a black and white for my creature collection done of a werewolf also especially done for an interview with Lar DeSouza at the chiu stream.

This is another Chiu Stream competition piece that I continued and finish off from what was posted on the actual submission.  It's the cat from "Alice And Wonderland" and the idea is to redesign one of your own version of the cat.

A little sketch exercise from observation.  Just stuff I needed to do daily to keep loosening up on things like gestures and forms.  Some hit and miss.

A piece done for Chiu Stream contest.  The theme for it is "Frankenstein".  Lots of great entry on this one.  The winner for this receives a Mike Mignola original sketch.  Great comic artist, popular for hellboy.  Every week Bobby Chiu holds a contest and invites a guest artist for interview.  A great opportunity for these weekly contest is that you at least participated, have fun, and of course build up on your work.  Happy Holloween!!

I went back to some of the early concepts of the first creature that was posted back when I started this post and painted up two of the leg concepts I worked on.  These two design did not make it into the final character, but I enjoyed so much just painting it up.

This is a model sheet I did of a muscle anatomy for a rat warrior I worked with for my 3D modeler Artist John Varner to construct and model.  We went through many phases of design especially to see what works and what didn't before we decided to build this character.  The muscle was a main concern of this character for it's look in terms of the design outcome.

Crusade

This is a piece I did for a client some months ago.  The idea was a crusade type outfit and for a female.  I wanted to give it a different look than the typical Joan of Arc.  A lot were mixed traditional and digital work.  Not sure if I like the stance on this rock thing but the client was pleased with it.
